MARKETING DEBUTS, MEET THE TRAINERS – SHAPING THE FUTURE OF THE CREATIVE COMMS INDUSTRY

      By industry club

Zahra Hasan, Social Media Strategy, Data & Insights at Wilderness.

Tell us a little about you and your background.

My journey has been a little windy! The short version is, I started my social media career doing social for a restaurant, and made some great learnings while I was at it. I did my undergraduate degree in journalism, and my master’s in social media which is how I ended up in the career! I joined Wilderness at the end of 2017 and have since realised my love for social insights and data and the role that plays in strategy.

You’re clearly passionate about social media. What, in particular, do you love about it?

What I love about social media is the fact that you get to listen and learn about people, see interesting trends and see how it shapes societies as well as individuals. I’m very much excited by the stories and power that social media has in bringing about change and in adding value to communities – whether that’s through connecting people, sharing stories, or adding value to sports fans.

What are the big opportunities in social for young people breaking into marketing today?

There are a lot of opportunities in social, especially when it comes to paid media. My advice would be to start equipping yourself with paid strategy skills as they’re crucial now and will be more so going forward.

What themes and topics will your training modules cover in the Marketing Debuts training workshops?

My module is about being strategic with your creative choices on social – and to ensure it speaks to the demographic you want to reach. We’ll also be going into how to decide what platform is best for your chosen audience, and how to map that journey.

What made you want to get involved in Marketing Debuts?

I’m keen to share my knowledge and learnings with others in the industry who want to upskill and those who may be new to the industry as I know how helpful that can be.
Employers can register their interest in Marketing Debuts by contacting Melissa.
