Building an In-house Agency

Recruiting key creative talent for a leading Telco brand

A Well-Connected Approach

In 2021, we partnered with a change management consultancy who’d been briefed to build an in-house agency for one of the leading mobile networks, that would complement their key agency partners whilst rationalising and reducing reliance on other suppliers.

Their approach was structured around three main pillars and they chose to partner with The Industry Club for their creative recruitment solution.

1. Identify The Objectives

The task for our client was defined by four key objectives:

  • Define the vision and remit for a new in-house agency that would support their client's marketing processes and complement their key creative agency’s activities, particularly in the realms of social media management, digital marketing strategies, and graphic design
  • Design a team structure to deliver this vision and remit
  • Recruit key members of the team
  • Generate savings in the process by rationalising the number of external suppliers

2. Define The Brief

It was important to design an in-house agency solution that would not be regarded as just another internal team. The solution had to be a dynamic agency that would rival any external creative partner in terms of quality, innovation, and efficiency. To do this, they would have to design an exciting and motivating agency model, that would secure the buy-in of their client's key agency partners.

At the same time, it was important to identify the existing in-house creative and production talent currently distributed across numerous legacy teams. The foundation of the new in-house agency would be built by consolidating this talent under clear creative leadership, that could be augmented by some critical additional hires.

3. Deliver The Solution

The Industry Club was brought onboard as recruitment partner, as our expertise in creative talent acquisition has been invaluable in helping other in-house agencies build teams of industry-leading talent, who not only have the skills required but also fit the culture and values of the company they serve.

We knew that one of the most crucial tasks was finding the right creative leader to partner with our client's Head of Creative Services. We were looking for a Creative Director whose experience and dynamism would not only define the future creative direction of the brand, it would further attract a high-level of creative talent to the additional roles.

After an extensive search, we were delighted to secure a creative director with a proven track record in both PR and digital content creation, and with their guidance we were able to provide a successful recruitment drive, delivering top-class creative talent into the roles of Art Director, Copywriter, Head of design, Senior designer and Print Manager.

The Right Call

Since its inception, the in-house agency has collaborated seamlessly with their key creative agency partners on the roll out of a much-lauded new brand campaign, whilst also beginning to deliver on the £1.5m of savings targeted through the rationalisation of our clients wider agency roster.

Additionally our creative recruitment services have not only increased the agency skills in social media, digital and design, but have added new capabilities in the areas of brand concept origination, brand development, photography, videography, motion graphics and print production.
